Ryan D. Gesten was born in Forest Hills, New York where he graduated from The Kew-Forest Private School in 1993, the son of a criminal attorney and a linguistics teacher. Mr. Gesten matriculated at the University of Miami. Mr. Gesten graduated in 1997 with a Bachelor of Business Administration, majoring in Marketing.
Mr. Gesten then attended the University of Miami, School of Law. Mr. Gesten earned the University of Miami, School of Law Dean’s Certificate of Achievement for Academic Performance in Civil Procedure. Mr. Gesten also completed courses at the University of London, Faculty of Laws, in England. Mr. Gesten also completed a summer internship at the Department of Justice, U.S. Trustee’s office. Mr. Gesten was admitted to the Florida Bar on May 1, 2000.
In 2000, Mr. Gesten joined the firm of Sprechman & Associates. P.A in Aventura, where he focused on consumer and commercial collections, as well as insurance subrogation.
In 2001 Mr. Gesten managed the South Florida office of Hiday & Ricke, P.A., a statewide consumer collection and insurance subrogation law firm with offices throughout Florida.
In 2003 Mr. Gesten joined the law firm of Behar, Gutt & Glazer, P.A. in their Aventura, Florida office focusing on trade secrets, trade dress, and non-compete law in Federal and State Courts throughout the nation. In May 2004, Mr. Gesten was placed in charge of the firm’s consumer and commercial collections department while continuing to handle FDCPA and FCCPA defense, creditor’s rights, bankruptcy and other complex litigation matters.
In 2008 Mr. Gesten became in-house Florida Corporate Counsel to Hudson & Keyse, LLC, a nationally licensed collection agency and a leader in the debt buying and reselling industry. Mr. Gesten has tried approximately 100 bench trials and handled thousands of lawsuits from filing through and including post judgment execution.
Mr. Gesten has lectured on the FDCPA and state collection laws for the National Business Institute. Additionally, Mr. Gesten was a contributing author of International Commercial Debt Collection, Carswell (West Publications).
